A long-standing and ongoing project of mine, to allow for an exploration of counter histories throughout the Quebec History Program.  Some of the  tracing documents I have developed can be found at learnquebec.ca/counterhistories (now archived here) and also on the programs page of our Secondary History site.

In short, these documents were not intended to provide comprehensive alternative history courses, but were simply a way of noting that different groups and stories were consistently present throughout our Quebec History timeline.  I used the documents to record examples of certain groups throughout the program, examples that were forgotten.  To date the best example of this in action on our sites is the Black History tracing document available via the Black History section of LEARN I also set up, and directly via the document itself here.

But what I was hoping for … was that teachers would offer blank versions of these documents to students, so that throughout the year they could trace a specific group’s participation as they moved through the course, thus personalizing the course and making it relevant to their interests and perspectives.  After having worked with Lisa Taylor and her Bishop’s University student-teachers on melding QEP Program elements with what she referred to as Social Justice Competencies,  some of her students could use these documents to trace other cultures throughout the program.  An example of what only one student did on Indigenous experiences can be view here.  And here is a jump to the middle of work another student did on tracing Chinese Canadian experiences.
